Duplicity Opt-in/Opt-out
May. 24th, 2024 09:42 pmToge has the uncontrollable skill of Cursed Speech, and this page is to go into more detail about how it works and what it does.
Cursed speech is facilitated through the snake and fangs markings on his face and tongue, in combination with Toge's voice and cursed energy.
Toge has a reserve of cursed energy that he expels when he makes noise. This cannot be turned off, the only thing Toge can do is mitigate it. He does this by muffling the sound of his voice and blocking the cursed energy with a physical barrier, like a mask or high collar. He's also soft-spoken most of the time, to reduce the inevitable output. Technically his safe words carry cursed energy as well, but it's negligible.
The cost to Toge is that his energy is literally attacking his throat when he makes noises, and uses his abilities and they will with enough use/force, cut right through his vocal cords. Day-to-day this is not going to happen, but by the end of the day his throat is a bit sore, he may sound a bit hoarse.
Toge is so careful because his cursed energy and voice can influence people. This is why he speaks the way he does and is very careful to mute his reactions to things. It's entirely likely that something like catching Toge off-guard with a giggle or something may make the person with him feel like laughing along - or perhaps in a sexual situation getting him to make noise is likely to offer feedback about how he's feeling, heightening the intensity and encouraging arousal. As a player you will never be forced to engage with this mechanic. Do not feel as though you have to engage with it. You won't hurt my feelings - but if you want to, it's there. This is the bulk of how it may come up in interactions. Toge will likely be very apologetic if he realizes he's accidentally cursed your character. There would be no further effects, especially if he is not intending on doing anything.
Comments usually are left in the flavour text and can be engaged with - or not! If this is alright with you, then you don't need to do anything at all. I'm always available for hashing something out. If you don't want to engage in the mechanic and you don't want to see it in the flavour text, then by all means leave me an opt-out below. I, like Toge, do not want to make anyone uncomfortable.
However, if you want to plot something specific, or maybe you'd like to get a taste of some other commands, things like 'don't move' which he has in his repertoire now in a combat setting, and have him actually curse your character intentionally, by all means leave me a note below.
