Name: Toge Inumaki Door: Right Canon: Jujutsu Kaisen Canon Point: Pre-Shibuya, around October 25th or so. Age: 17 Appearance: Link to picture Snake & Fangs History: Wiki Link Supplemental Information not in the Wiki: * Toge was born to the Inumaki clan. He was born with the snake and fangs curse mark, meaning that unlike most jujutsu sorcerers - his ability has been active since his birth. * There is very little known about Toge's childhood. The Inumaki clan used to be a prominent, upstanding clan in the Jujutsu world but one of his ancestors did some unforgivable act that got the clan ostracized. Considered criminals in the underground jujutsu world, efforts were taken to dilute the gene pool to destroy the Cursed Speech ability. However, passed along the family line, every so often someone like Toge is born. Toge is the only living clan member with the snake and fangs. * As a child, Toge did not have perfect control over his impulses and he accidentally cursed his fellow clan members. It is highly unlikely that he did attend school, but rather stayed within the clan alone. It is also highly likely that he is not treated well within the clan. The policies surrounding Cursed Speech users include letting them die off as soon as possible, and not allowing them to procreate and pass on their genes. Toge was not a wanted child, but rather a blight on their genealogical record. Like all of the clans it's probable that the Inumaki clan is toxic and dysfunctional. * The clan believes that those afflicted with Cursed Speech 'communicate with their hearts' and so Toge's ability to communicate was not at all focused on. Toge invented his own language, of roughly ten safe words which all happen to be riceball ingredients because they are his favourite food. He also communicates with rudimentary gestures and exaggerated body language to get his point across. Personality: Positive Trait: Compassionate Toge has a kindness for those around him. His job involves the protection and rescue of ordinary civilians, he works very hard to make sure they are safe and can go about their normal lives. He cares deeply about his classmates, this manifests in his desire to cook for them, as well as his willingness to step in for them and take the brunt of an attack to protect them. He invented an entire language on his own, to protect people from the consequences of his ability to minimize its effect in day to day life. Panda also explains to Yuta the heavy burden that this is, and that he has accidentally cursed people before, that's why he's so very considerate of what he's doing. This compassion is not only for people, it extends to the small garden that he has painstakingly taken care of for the past year and a bit. Negative Trait: Self-Sacrificial Toge's compassion does not extend to himself, in fact he seems to have no regard at all for his safety or security. He will throw himself headfirst into danger to protect his classmates, not just because he's compassionate, but he has little regard for what happens to him. Toge's ability while extremely powerful, also extracts a terrible toll in tearing apart his vocal cords, and he can use it until his vocal cords snap. Every time he works, he's putting his own health and safety on the line quite literally. He feels like he is an acceptable sacrifice. This is demonstrated when he shoves Yuta aside when a high grade curse shows up, further when he tries to keep Yuta from jumping back into the fight. He was vastly outmatched during the inter-school tournament and he tried to send Kamo and Megumi running for their protection. He stood up even when he was at his limits to use his abilities to the breaking point in an effort to buy them time. It never occurs to him that not pushing past his limits is an option, and ultimately he pays the price. Negative Trait: Obnoxious Toge has a bit of a trickster nature hiding beneath all the quiet, something that seems to be encouraged and nurtured by Gojo. He likes to get a rise out of his friends at times. He sits back with Panda and lets Maki comment on the first years' loss of Yuji. He can also be found pulling a prank with Gojo where he swipes Maki's skirt, regardless of the consequences and wears it, declaring his presence even though the consequence is that Nobara gets angry and bonks him on the head. He delights in these kinds of harmless pranks, although he wouldn't do anything that would actually hurt someone. Negative Trait: Withdrawn Because of his past isolation, and the comparisons to Yuta, it's incredibly highly likely that when he came to Jujutsu Tech, he was very much in his own shell. His desire to help Yuta, comes from his similar personal experiences. Panda explained this to Yuta that they were very similar when Toge arrived, compared to how Yuta was then. Toge is easy to misinterpret. Silence makes people uncomfortable and he doesn't say much, and some people like Yuta, take it to mean disinterest, or aloofness when there's little Toge can do about that. Keeping his face covered exacerbates the issue, but it's entirely necessary to help block the cursed energy to prevent accidents. He's been isolated from the general world, and his ability to move within it is incredibly hampered by his restrictions. In his first year, Toge would often be sitting alone, which made him seem unapproachable to Yuta, until he understood that he was completely mistaken and Toge was actually genuinely kind and interesting. The thing is, Toge didn't do anything to change that - Gojo intervened to make them work together. His perception of a world where he is disposable, led to that being required - although since his first year and Yuta coming into his life, he's improved in the friend making area. Toge is a bit mousey in that he keeps his head down and is willing to go along with the status quo. He requires someone to motivate him and push him, but once he connects to someone he is loyal and ride or die, all the way. Powers and Abilities: Cursed Energy Sense/Manipulation - Toge is a jujutsu sorcerer, and his strongest asset is his ability to sense cursed energy and evaluate its strength. He can also manipulate the cursed energy within him to used his cursed technique. He's described as having a pool on the higher side to the point he has more cursed energy than he could ever use, because his body physically gives out on him first. Cursed Technique: Cursed Speech - Toge is the sole living practitioner of cursed speech. The ability is marked by the snake and fangs, visible sigils that look similar to tatoos on either side of his lips, and one on his tongue. The ability is tied to Toge's voice. His pitch, volume and the words used all have an effect on what he is doing. It can effect any living thing that can hear him and he is strong enough to execute some heavy hits on the strongest players. There is no known counter to this technique, making him one of the most dangerous and feared opponents among his peers. In the practical, Toge will speak a command such as stop or don't move, and the person or curse it's directed at will be forced to do so, through the cursed energy he is expelling. The stronger they are, the more effort it takes. People without cursed energy are incredibly low effort for him and don't tax him at all. He can also make things explode, twist up in knots, implode, blast away into things and other practical things, all by uttering one word with intent, and directing his cursed energy where to go. Accidental discharges, like laughter or crying out with pain, or sadness may in fact influence the people around him, so he is very careful to muffle himself as much as possible. The limitations are that this is a double edged sword. Every command he gives, even his normal riceball speech, has a backlash directly to his vocal cords. When exerting himself, it's easy to catch him coughing, which proceeds to coughing up blood and finally his vocal cords snapping. While there is nothing really game breaking here - the option to be affected by Toge's ability or not is always left to the other player when accidentally discharging it, and it's never used directly without prior planning or permission. Inventory: Toge is in possession of a spare mask (as opposed to his collar), a bottle of throat spray and his purple cell phone. Samples: Link to TDM Introspection: Sometimes the weather cooperated and they had a lovely day like today, with a bright shining sun in the sky and most people Toge's age are out, milling about this pedestrian walkway all smiles and full of excitement. Toge himself is leaning against a wall, just observing from behind his collar. He's out of the way, no one gives him a second glance. Of course they don't, these people don't know someone like him exists. He's waiting for a curse, but there was still time before it was rumoured to show up, so he is able to stand there and people watch. Toge watches a couple walking with their fingers interlocked, moving at their own speed, speaking far too low to be heard and wondered if that was what he'd be doing if he wasn't a sorcerer. Maybe he would have a girlfriend, or a boyfriend. He's entirely indifferent on the matter, actually...and shouldn't he have an opinion on that? He's not sure. It's never been something he could indulge in. He sees a group of friends jostling each other and laughing and talking about baseball - hey he knows about that! - only he knows just as equally that they would never understand him. Toge sighs, trying not to be envious. He wonders if these other kids go to school - probably they do - and if they're planning on going to university, or choosing some kind of job. They'd have to be, right? He doesn't have the choice, not really, but at the same time there's not a whole lot different he could do. His curse marks disfigure him and take him out of the running for anything respectable, and his muteness knocks anything else out. Underground sorcerer world it is, whether he likes it or not. These people look so happy and while he's entirely envious that this isn't his life, he wants to protect that. He was born to do the dirty work so they don't have to. All in a moment, he senses the cursed energy and pushes off the wall. Time to get to work. |
